DAY 2

March 2, 2017

REFLECT:

James 4

4 You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that He jealously longs for the Spirit He has caused to dwell in us? 6 But He gives us more grace.

That is why Scripture says:

“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”

Humility... One of the hardest things to accomplish for most humans. It stands alone among the virtues in that as soon as you think you have it, you probably don't. It's possible for both the arrogant and the humble to both think of themselves as humble. So how could you ever know if you have attained the virtue of humility? THINK ON THIS!

Now if there was no pollution, there would be no need of cleansing, no dross in the gold, no need of refinement. But the case is quite otherwise. The unchanged heart is enmity to God. Mary Fletcher

Lent is a season of confession, repentance, and turning away from self to God. The virtue of humility will only be achieved when surrendering takes place.

CONFESS:

James 4

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and HE will lift you up.

PRAY:

"Create my soul anew or all my worship is in vain.

This wicked heart will never prove true

Until YOU form it again." Mary Fletcher

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10
